Far North Coast Jet Boat Service
The Far North
Coast provides Jet Rescue Boat services, that
originate from Ballina on the Far North coast of
NSW. The boat performs approximately 350 hours
of patrol per year per. The Far North Coast
Jetboat is on a 24 hour call out service and
provide in-water supervision on weekends and
school / public holidays throughout the year.
The development
of the aluminium craft powered by turbo charged
diesel engines has meant a significant
advancement in white water rescue capabilities
for the Far North Coast aquatic safety in a
period of rapid local and tourism population
expansion on our coastline.
Prior to the
1990s Jet Rescue Boats were predominately made
of fibre glass and were approximately 17 foot in
length and housed a six cylinder jet propelled
motor. Today, the development of aluminum hulls
and the power of turbo charged Volvo Penta
diesel engines has enabled a significant
advancement in white water rescue capabilities.
Although the boats weigh approximately 2 tonne,
their design allows them to operate in all types
of conditions including shallow water and a high
surf environment.
Having an
overall length of 6.4 metres, the craft offers
greater speed and maneuverability. Better
economy obtained from the diesel engine gives
the craft a search and rescue duration of up to
ten hours. Operational areas include high seas,
shallow waters and river mouths where a jet
system is unmatched. The absence of underwater
appendages inherent with water jets allows the
boat to operate close to shore and in shallow
waters. The craft is capable of transporting
nine people and has the ability to perform long
distance surveillance and rescue patrol work in
the white water aquatic environment.
